# fal.ai alternatives: the same models, priced side by side

By TokLab · Published 2026-11-04 · Updated 2026-11-04

fal.ai is a hosted API for image, video and audio models. Its homepage lists 1,500+ generative media models, and you pay per output: per image, per megapixel or per second of video. Choosing a fal.ai alternative comes down to the model you already run, what it costs elsewhere, and what you would give up by moving.

So this comparison works from prices. Every figure below comes from a platform's own pricing page or model page, checked on November 4, 2026, with the link next to it. TokLab is our product and it is in the list. Where fal is cheaper, the tables say so.

<video src="/media/blog/2026-11-04-fal-ai-alternatives/seedance-clips.mp4" poster="/media/blog/2026-11-04-fal-ai-alternatives/cover.webp" aria-label="One prompt rendered by Seedance 2.5, 2.0, 2.0 Fast and 2.0 Mini on TokLab, with what each 4-second clip was billed and the same clip at fal.ai's rate" preload="metadata" />

## The short answer

* **Same models, lower per-unit price:** TokLab and Runware. On the Seedance family, TokLab's published token rates are about half of fal's.
* **The biggest catalog, or your own models:** Replicate. Cloudflare's announcement of the acquisition puts it at 50,000+ models.
* **Mostly LLMs, some media:** OpenRouter for routing across text providers, Together AI for open models and rented GPUs.
* **LoRA training, private deployments, raw GPU time:** stay on fal, or rent GPUs yourself.

## What you get on fal.ai, and what it costs

Here are fal's terms as its own docs state them.

* **Billing.** Model APIs bill per output. fal's [pricing docs](https://fal.ai/docs/documentation/model-apis/pricing) say "You are billed for successfully generated outputs," server errors are never billed, and queue time is free. A failed request on fal already costs nothing, so that is not a reason to switch.
* **Credit expiry.** fal is prepaid. Its [terms of service](https://fal.ai/legal/terms-of-service) say purchased credits "will expire 365 days from the date of purchase," and free or promotional credits expire in 90 days.
* **Concurrency.** A new account can run 2 requests at once. The limit rises with "the total amount of paid invoices from the last four weeks," up to 40 on self-serve; above that you talk to sales ([concurrency docs](https://fal.ai/docs/documentation/model-apis/concurrency-limits)). Requests over the limit wait in the queue rather than fail.
* **LLMs.** fal's text endpoints sit under `openrouter/router`, so chat models on fal are OpenRouter behind fal's API.
* **GPUs.** fal also rents compute: an H100 lists at $4.50 an hour, "as low as $2.49," on its [pricing page](https://fal.ai/pricing).

That leaves three real reasons to look around: the price of the specific models you run, the concurrency ramp for a new account, and credit that expires.

## One model, five prices: Seedance 2.0 Fast at 720p

Seedance 2.0 Fast is on most of these platforms, which makes it a fair single test. The figure is the price of one second of 720p video from a text prompt, with no reference video.

![Price per second of 720p Seedance 2.0 Fast video on fal.ai, WaveSpeedAI, Replicate, Runware and TokLab](https://toklab.ai/media/blog/2026-11-04-fal-ai-alternatives/seedance-fast-720p.webp)

| Platform | 720p, per second | Billed by |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------: | -------------------------------- |
| [fal.ai](https://fal.ai/models/bytedance/seedance-2.0/fast/text-to-video) | $0.2419 | video tokens, $0.0112 per 1,000 |
| [WaveSpeedAI](https://wavespeed.ai/models/bytedance/seedance-2.0-fast/text-to-video) | $0.20 | output second |
| [Replicate](https://replicate.com/bytedance/seedance-2.0-fast) | $0.15 | output second |
| [Runware](https://runware.ai/fal-alternative) | $0.13 | output second |
| [TokLab](https://toklab.ai/docs/seedance-2-0) | $0.1207 | video tokens, $5.588 per million |

Runware's figure is the one it lists next to fal's $0.2419 on its fal comparison page.

fal and TokLab both bill Seedance by video tokens, where tokens are width × height × frames ÷ 1,024. A 1280×720 second at 24 frames is 21,600 tokens, which is how $0.0112 per thousand becomes fal's own published $0.2419. The TokLab figure is the same arithmetic on its rate.

Together AI also sells Seedance 2.0, but its [pricing page](https://www.together.ai/pricing) gives "$0.16 per video estimated" without a resolution or a length, so it cannot sit in a per-second table.

At 480p the order holds. fal's token rate works out to $0.1125 a second for a 16:9 clip, WaveSpeedAI lists $0.10, Replicate $0.07 and TokLab $0.0561.

## fal.ai vs TokLab on the models both sell

These are the overlapping models at fal's list price, text or image to video without reference video. The TokLab figures are from its live price tables on [toklab.ai/pricing](https://toklab.ai/pricing) and each model's docs page.

**Video billed per second**

| Model | fal.ai | TokLab | TokLab vs fal |
| ---------------------------- | -----: | -------: | ------------: |
| Grok Imagine Video 1.5, 480p | $0.08 | $0.04 | −50% |
| Grok Imagine Video 1.5, 720p | $0.14 | $0.08 | −43% |
| Veo 3.1 Fast, 1080p, audio | $0.15 | $0.1104 | −26% |
| Kling 4.0, 720p | $0.157 | $0.1425 | −9% |
| MiniMax H3 Max, 768p | $0.08 | $0.07313 | −9% |
| Veo 3.1, 1080p, audio | $0.40 | $0.368 | −8% |

On TokLab the two Veo rows are `veo-3.1-fast-official` and `veo-3.1-quality-official`.

**Images**

| Model | fal.ai | TokLab | TokLab vs fal |
| ------------------------------------------- | ------: | -------: | ------------: |
| Nano Banana 2.1, per 1M image output tokens | $35.294 | $19.50 | −45% |
| GPT Image 2.5, per 1M image output tokens | $30.00 | $22.50 | −25% |
| FLUX 3 Image Klein, 1K, per image | $0.009 | $0.00847 | −6% |

The gap is wide on Seedance, Grok Imagine and Nano Banana and small on Kling, Veo 3.1 Quality and FLUX. A platform that is half the price on one model can be within a few percent on the next, so price the two or three models you actually call.

Two rows have a cheaper TokLab route than the one in the table. `veo-3.1-fast` bills a flat $0.168 per 8-second clip below 4K, with fewer options than the per-second ID (no audio switch). And [GPT Image 2.5](https://toklab.ai/models/gpt-image-2-5)'s flat-rate IDs charge $0.021 per image from low to high quality, less than half of fal's $0.0528 for a 1024×1024 image at high.

### Where fal is cheaper right now

fal is running promotions on MiniMax H3. From November 1 to November 15, 2026, its [H3 Max page](https://fal.ai/models/minimax/h3-max/text-to-video) takes 30% off: $0.035 a second at 480p and $0.056 at 768p. TokLab charges $0.0457 and $0.07313, so fal is 23% cheaper until the promotion ends. From November 16 fal's list price returns to $0.05 and $0.08, and TokLab is 9% under it again. H3 Max Turbo is the same story: $0.0175 and $0.028 on fal against $0.02285 and $0.03656 on TokLab.

Low-quality GPT Image 2.5 is another case. The $0.021 flat rate applies at low quality too, and fal's token billing puts a 1024×1024 low-quality image at $0.0060. If you generate a lot of small, low-quality drafts, fal's token billing (or TokLab's `-official` token route, at $22.50 per million output tokens) costs less than the flat rate.

## What four real Seedance requests cost

On November 3, 2026 we sent one text-to-video request to each Seedance model on TokLab: 480p, 4:3, 4 seconds, which renders at 752×560. The gateway billed 39,891 tokens for each, because it counts 97 frames for 4 seconds, one more than 4 × 24.

![Four Seedance requests billed on TokLab on November 3, 2026, next to the same outputs priced at fal.ai's published token rates](https://toklab.ai/media/blog/2026-11-04-fal-ai-alternatives/measured-bills.webp)

| Model | TokLab charged | Same output at fal's rate | Difference |
| ----------------- | -------------: | ------------------------: | ---------: |
| Seedance 2.5 | $0.426076 | $0.8449 | −50% |
| Seedance 2.0 | $0.279078 | $0.5527 | −50% |
| Seedance 2.0 Fast | $0.222910 | $0.4422 | −50% |
| Seedance 2.0 Mini | $0.148754 | $0.2764 | −46% |

The fal column uses fal's own token formula for the same clip, which gives 39,480 tokens, and its published rate for each model. We did not run these on fal. Each TokLab charge was tokens × rate, rounded to the nearest $0.000002, the smallest amount the ledger bills. A 5-second Mini clip at the same settings billed 49,761 tokens for $0.185558.

We repeated the four requests on November 4 with a different prompt (the clips in the image at the top). Each came back at 39,891 tokens with the same charge as the day before. The bill depends on resolution, aspect ratio and length, not on what is in the frame.

## The fal.ai alternatives, one at a time

### TokLab

TokLab is a single API for image, video, audio and text models, with one balance and one key. Video and image jobs go to `/v1/videos/generations` and `/v1/images/generations` and are read back from `/v1/tasks/{id}`; text models use the OpenAI-compatible `/v1/chat/completions` and `/v1/responses`. Its [models page](https://toklab.ai/models) lists 44 models, including Seedance 2.5 and 2.0, Kling, Veo 3.1, GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana, Claude and GPT-6. Many come on two routes: a flat price per result, and an `-official` route billed by tokens.

Credit does not expire, failed tasks are not charged, and the smallest top-up is $20.

What it does not have matters as much. There is no LoRA training, no custom model deployment and no GPU rental. Task results are polled; the [webhooks page](https://toklab.ai/docs/api/webhooks) says the task APIs "do not provide a public completion webhook." And 44 models is a small fraction of fal's 1,500+.

**Best for:** teams that run a handful of popular video and image models at volume, want lower per-unit prices on them, and want LLMs on the same key.

### Replicate

Replicate is the largest catalog in this group. Cloudflare [announced](https://www.cloudflare.com/press/press-releases/2025/cloudflare-to-acquire-replicate-to-build-the-most-seamless-ai-cloud-for-developers/) on November 17, 2025 that it had agreed to acquire Replicate, citing 50,000+ production-ready models. Official models such as Seedance 2.0 Fast are priced per second of output ($0.07 at 480p, $0.15 at 720p). Community models and your own deployments bill hardware time instead, with an H100 at $0.001525 a second, or $5.49 an hour, on its [pricing page](https://replicate.com/pricing).

It is the place to go for a niche fine-tune or a research model that no curated catalog carries. The trade-off is that per-second hardware billing makes the cost of a community model depend on how long it runs.

**Best for:** projects that need a specific open model or want to publish their own.

### Runware

Runware runs models on its own inference stack and goes after fal directly. Its [fal comparison page](https://runware.ai/fal-alternative) lists 63 models side by side, claims an average saving of 43% per model and a largest single saving of 92% (on FLUX.1 \[dev] SRPO, $0.0019 against $0.025 per image). Those are Runware's own figures, and the page is useful for checking your model before you sign up.

**Best for:** image-heavy workloads on open models. FLUX and Qwen-Image variants take most of the top spots in its savings table.

### WaveSpeedAI

WaveSpeedAI hosts many of the same video models and prices them per second by resolution. Seedance 2.0 Fast is $0.10 a second at 480p and $0.20 at 720p on its model page, with 5-, 10- and 15-second totals worked out next to each rate. At 720p that is 17% under fal, a smaller gap than Replicate, Runware or TokLab.

**Best for:** video teams that want per-second prices they can read off a table.

### Together AI

Together AI is an inference cloud for open models. Its pricing page leads with serverless text models, then dedicated endpoints and GPU rental: an HGX H100 is $1.99 per GPU-hour preemptible or $3.99 on demand. It lists media models too, including Seedance 2.5 and 2.0, but prices them "per video estimated," which makes a video budget hard to plan.

**Best for:** LLM-first products that need some image or video on the side.

### OpenRouter

OpenRouter routes one API key across text models from many vendors and now has an asynchronous [video generation API](https://openrouter.ai/docs/guides/overview/multimodal/video-generation) too. It is a router: it does not host models, train them or rent GPUs. fal's own chat endpoints run through it.

**Best for:** text models from many vendors behind one key and one bill.

### Renting GPUs yourself

If your volume is steady, a GPU billed by the hour can beat any per-output price, because you pay for the machine and not the result. fal's H100 ($2.49 to $4.50 an hour), Together's ($1.99 preemptible, $3.99 on demand) and Replicate's ($5.49) are the reference points. The cost is everything a hosted API does for you: loading weights, cold starts, scaling and keeping the box busy.

## When staying on fal.ai is the right call

fal is the better choice if you train LoRAs, deploy private or fine-tuned models, need 3D or text-to-speech models (TokLab has neither), or depend on its queue and webhooks. Its 1,500+ model catalog is also hard to match when you switch models often. And through November 15, 2026, it is the cheaper place to run MiniMax H3 Max and H3 Max Turbo.

## Before you switch: a short checklist

1. **List the endpoints you call and their monthly volume.** Price those, at your real resolution and length, on each candidate. A 50% saving on a model you rarely call is worth less than 9% on your main one.
2. **Map model IDs and request bodies.** fal's `bytedance/seedance-2.0/fast/text-to-video` is `dreamina-seedance-2-0-fast` on TokLab, and the request shape differs: TokLab's Seedance takes ByteDance's `content` array.
3. **Replace webhooks if you use them.** On TokLab you poll `GET /v1/tasks/{id}` until it is `completed` or `failed`.
4. **Check how frames are counted.** Token-billed video counts frames, and providers can differ by one frame per clip. It is about 1% on a 4-second clip, but it shows up in reconciliation.
5. **Spend down fal credit first.** Purchased credit there expires 365 days after purchase.

## FAQ

### Is there a cheaper fal.ai alternative for Seedance?

Yes. TokLab's published Seedance token rates are about half of fal's across 2.5, 2.0, Fast and Mini, and our four test requests on November 3, 2026 billed 46% to 50% less than the same outputs at fal's rates. Replicate and Runware also list Seedance 2.0 Fast below fal at 720p.

### Does fal.ai charge for failed requests?

No. fal bills successfully generated outputs only, and requests that fail with a server error are not charged. TokLab works the same way.

### Do fal.ai credits expire?

Yes. Purchased credits expire 365 days after purchase and free or promotional credits after 90 days, according to fal's terms of service. TokLab balances do not expire.

### Is Replicate cheaper than fal.ai?

It depends on the model. Replicate's Seedance 2.0 Fast is $0.15 a second at 720p against fal's $0.2419. For community models billed by GPU time, the price depends on how long the run takes, so test with your own inputs.

### Can one API key cover LLMs and video?

On TokLab, yes: text models use the OpenAI-compatible endpoints and media models use the task endpoints, all on one balance. fal also offers chat models, routed through OpenRouter.

## Conclusion

For most teams, the right fal.ai alternative is the one that is cheapest on the two or three models they run most. On the Seedance family and Grok Imagine Video, TokLab's rates are 43% to 50% below fal's. On Kling, Veo 3.1 Quality and FLUX the gap is under 10%, and on MiniMax H3 Max fal is cheaper until November 15. Price your own workload with the tables above, then [check the live rates](https://toklab.ai/pricing) before you move traffic.
