# WaveSpeed AI alternatives: how its prices compare with the model maker's

By TokLab · Published 2026-11-04 · Updated 2026-11-04

WaveSpeedAI is two products on one balance: an API with 1,000+ models and a set of browser studios and one-click tools for creators. Semrush's traffic data puts it at 3.26 million visits in September 2026, and lists consumer creative apps as its closest competitors by shared keywords. A lot of its users never write a line of code.

That matters when you look for a WaveSpeed AI alternative, because WaveSpeedAI sets its own price on every model. On some models it charges exactly what the model maker charges. On others it charges far more. If you use the studios, those prices come bundled with tools that most API platforms don't have. If you call the API, you are paying the markup for nothing.

This guide compares WaveSpeedAI's prices with each model maker's own price, shows where WaveSpeedAI is the better choice, and splits the advice for creators and developers. We'll use one real job throughout: three GPT Image 2.5 images, two at high quality and one at max, which WaveSpeedAI lists at $0.54. We rendered them on TokLab on November 4, 2026 and paid $0.0645.

TokLab is our product. It has no studios or editing tools, and the sections below say when that makes WaveSpeedAI the right pick.

## What is WaveSpeedAI?

WaveSpeedAI is an inference platform that sells image, video, audio, 3D and language models through a REST API, with a fixed price per run on each model page. You POST JSON to `https://api.wavespeed.ai/api/v3/<model>` and poll the prediction for its result, or pass a webhook. Its [pricing page](https://wavespeed.ai/pricing) says there are no monthly fees, and eligible new accounts get $1 in free credits with no card required.

How much you can run depends on your account level. WaveSpeedAI's [account levels page](https://wavespeed.ai/docs/account-levels) sets these limits:

| Level | Predictions per minute | Tasks at the same time | How you reach it |
| ------ | ---------------------: | ---------------------: | ----------------------------------- |
| Bronze | 5 | 2 | default for new users |
| Silver | 500 | 300 | any successful top-up below $1,000 |
| Gold | 3,000 | 3,000 | a single top-up of $1,000 to $4,999 |
| Ultra | 5,000 | 10,000 | a single top-up of $5,000 or more |

A new account can run two tasks at a time. The docs' own example: "if you submit a 3rd, it will wait until one finishes." The first top-up of any size lifts that to at least 300; a single top-up of $1,000 or more goes straight to Gold or Ultra.

## WaveSpeedAI's price vs the model maker's own price

The fairest test of a reseller's price is the price the model maker charges directly. Here is WaveSpeedAI against ByteDance (through BytePlus), Google and OpenAI:

| Model and setting | WaveSpeedAI | Model maker, direct | Difference |
| ------------------------------- | ----------: | ----------------------: | ---------: |
| Seedance 2.5, 720p, per second | $0.36 | $0.2312 (BytePlus) | +56% |
| Seedance 2.5, 1080p, per second | $0.90 | $0.5686 (BytePlus) | +58% |
| Nano Banana Pro, 1K | $0.14 | $0.134 (Google) | +4% |
| Nano Banana Pro, 4K | $0.24 | $0.24 (Google) | 0% |
| GPT Image 2.5, high, 1K | $0.09 | $0.0529 (OpenAI tokens) | +70% |
| GPT Image 2.5, max, 1K | $0.36 | $0.2110 (OpenAI tokens) | +71% |

Source: WaveSpeedAI model pages; BytePlus ModelArk pricing; Google's Gemini API pricing ($120 per million image output tokens, which it equates to $0.134 at 1K and 2K and $0.24 at 4K); OpenAI's $30 per million image output tokens applied to the counts of a 1024×1024 Flare image from our [GPT Image 2.5 API pricing](https://toklab.ai/blog/gpt-image-2-5-api-pricing) test. All checked November 4, 2026.

Two patterns stand out:

* **Nano Banana Pro is close to cost:** 4% above Google at 1K and the same at 4K.
* **Seedance and GPT Image carry a large markup:** 56% to 71% over the model maker's own price.

WaveSpeedAI was also running discounts that day: 20% off Kling 4.0 and 10% off Seedance 2.5 and Nano Banana Pro on the model pages, with no end date shown.

## Where WaveSpeedAI looks useful

WaveSpeedAI is the better choice in four situations.

**Seedance 2.5 at 4K.** WaveSpeedAI lists $1.80 a second. The only other 4K price we found is OpenRouter's $2.08.

**Kling 4.0 during the discount.** The list price is $0.157 a second at 720p, the common price. With 20% off, a 5-second 720p clip showed $0.628, or $0.1256 a second, below TokLab's $0.1425. Atlas Cloud lists it from $0.11.

**Creators who use the studios.** Browser studios, upscaling, face swap and video editing tools run on the same credits as the API. WaveSpeedAI says that whatever runs in its playground "ships to the API at the same price."

**GPT Image 2.5 at low quality.** At $0.01 for a 1K image, it costs less than the flat-rate routes below.

## Where an alternative costs less

For API traffic outside those four cases, these platforms charge less for the same model:

| Model and setting | WaveSpeedAI | Lowest here | Others |

## What three GPT Image 2.5 images cost

We rendered the three images at the top of this page on November 4, 2026 with GPT Image 2.5 Flare on TokLab's flat-rate route, all 1024×1024.

| Image | Quality | TokLab, billed | WaveSpeedAI, list |
| ------------------------- | ------- | -------------: | ----------------: |
| Portrait with film camera | max | $0.0225 | $0.36 |
| Kitchen recording | high | $0.021 | $0.09 |
| Cafe editing | high | $0.021 | $0.09 |
| Total | | $0.0645 | $0.54 |

The charge didn't change with the content of the prompt, only with quality: high and max are two flat prices. On WaveSpeedAI, max costs four times high. At a thousand max-quality images a month, the difference is $337.50.

## Should you switch? Creators vs developers

| If you… | Do this |
| ----------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| make content in WaveSpeedAI's studios and tools | Stay. The API platforms in this guide don't offer those tools. |
| render Seedance 2.5 at 4K | Stay. It's the lowest 4K price we found. |
| call Kling 4.0 while the discount runs | Stay, or compare with Atlas Cloud's starting price. |
| call GPT Image 2.5 at high or max quality | Move it to a flat-rate route. |
| call Seedance 2.5 at 480p to 1080p | Move it to a platform at ByteDance's rate or reapi.ai's Eco tier. |
| run many tasks in parallel on a new account | Top up once; any amount lifts the limit from 2 tasks to at least 300. |

## How to move API traffic off WaveSpeedAI

1. **List your models and settings.** WaveSpeedAI prices by quality and resolution, so a 1K and a 4K image are different line items.
2. **Check each against the model maker's price.** Where WaveSpeedAI is at or near cost, like Nano Banana Pro, moving gains little.
3. **Map the request.** WaveSpeedAI takes a POST to `https://api.wavespeed.ai/api/v3/<model>`. TokLab takes the model's own request body on `/v1/images/generations` or `/v1/videos/generations`.
4. **Replace webhooks.** WaveSpeedAI can call a webhook when a prediction finishes. On TokLab you poll `GET /v1/tasks/{id}`.
5. **Keep the studios if your team uses them.** Moving API calls doesn't require closing the WaveSpeedAI account.

## FAQ

### Is WaveSpeed AI free?

Not beyond the trial. Its pricing page says eligible new accounts get $1 in free credits with no card required, and that some premium models may not be available with trial credits. After that it is pay as you go.

### How do WaveSpeedAI account levels work?

Your level is set by the size of a single top-up: Bronze by default (5 predictions a minute, 2 at a time), Silver after any top-up below $1,000, Gold after one of $1,000 to $4,999 and Ultra after one of $5,000 or more. Levels only go up.

### Is WaveSpeedAI cheaper than fal.ai?

On Seedance 2.5, yes: $0.36 a second at 720p against fal.ai's $0.4730. On Kling 4.0 both list $0.157. On GPT Image 2.5 at high quality, fal.ai's $0.0528 for a 1024×1024 image is lower than WaveSpeedAI's $0.09.

### What is the cheapest WaveSpeed alternative for GPT Image 2.5?

At high and max quality, the flat-rate routes on TokLab ($0.021 and $0.0225) and reapi.ai ($0.021 and $0.026). At low quality, WaveSpeedAI's $0.01 is already lower.

## Check the model maker's price first

Before you move anything, put WaveSpeedAI's price for your top model next to the model maker's own price. If it's at or near cost, stay. If it's 50% or more above, render one real job on an alternative and compare the bill. Current TokLab rates are on the [pricing page](https://toklab.ai/pricing).
